Persistent yeast infection outbreaks are extremely discouraging for anyone who has reoccurring candida infection outbreaks. Often, you find yourself asking yourself “how do I get rid of my yeast infection”. Let’s explore some ways to treat your yeast infection and prevent it from recurring.
First – let’s go over how you might have gotten a yeast outbreak to begin with. Have you taken antibiotics in the past 6 months? If so, there is a good chance the antibiotics destroyed the ‘good bacteria’ that keeps the yeast cells in balance in your body. The use of antibiotics can be good in that it targets certain bacteria and illnesses. The downside is that in its quest to destroy ‘bad bacteria’, the ‘good stuff’ isn’t saved. Thus – you fix the problem (usually), but you create another one (yeast infection) in the meantime. Another source of yeast infection is the presence of excessive sugar in the body. It is common for diabetics to have problems with yeast infection. This is because their body cannot properly convert excess blood sugar into energy. As a result, the yeast grows and multiplies as blood glucose levels rise in the body.
While you can’t necessarily stop taking antibiotics, you should take some steps to prevent conditions where the yeast fungus thrives. Particularly areas that are moist and dark (yeast loves this). These areas in your body that are at risk include your vagina (for women) and penis (for men).
1) Wear loose-fitting clothing from your waist down. Don’t wear tight panty hose or undergarments. Also, wear 100% cotton underwear – make it unbleached if possible. Yeast is sometimes affected by synthetic materials.
2) Consume less sugar. If you are a diabetic – you should already be doing this – but if you still consume a fair amount of sugar (that is still within the diabetic guidelines) and you continue to have a persistent yeast problem, perhaps it is time to cut back even further.
